It’s Earth Day on April 22nd, 2016! Celebrate Mother Nature with These Tips for Sustainability.
Earth: our only home. The third rock from the sun, and the only body in our solar system that can naturally sustain human life—at least for now. You’d think that keeping it inhabitable would be among the top 3 priorities of world leaders, alas, that is not the case. For nearly 100 years we’ve been pumping hundreds of gigatons of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere are warming up our planet at rates rarely seen in the natural world. It’s up to us to not only demand change, but to actively make those changes in our lives—at the very least for one day. Here are 3 things you can do on Earth Day to reduce your carbon footprint.
- Eat Less Meat
On this day, do every species on the planet a favor, and don’t eat meat. Cows are among the leaders in producing dangerous greenhouse gases by emitting their own gas. And the only reason there are so many cows, is because we keep buying and eating their meat. To be clear, we’re NOT saying not to eat meat, only naturally, eat less of it. Take it from 7 times a week, to 6 times a week.
- Plant a Tree
The only reason that we have as much oxygen in our atmosphere as we do, is because plants (and algae) have been converting CO2 to O2 for roughly 3 billion years. (That’s about ¾ of the Earth’s current age. Planting a tree is one more organism trying to absorb some of this CO2.
- Green Your Machine
Americans waste more than 700 million gallons of gas each and every year. Investing in an all-electric car will be a great way to not only save money, but save the Earth. Currently, they are a bit pricey, but Tesla is looking to release its first affordable model in 2017 (starting at $35,000).
