How To: Get Comfortable At Work

Workplace Comfort Brookfield, WI

These tips can help you feel your best at work.

If you spend eight hours a day at work, you should be comfortable. Unfortunately, that is not the reality for most workers who spend their day at a desk. To help increase your workplace comfort, keep these tips in mind.

Adjust your chair

  • Your chair should be able to adjust in height, as well as have an adjustable seat pan and backrest.
  • Adjust your chair’s height so that your thighs are horizontal and your feet are resting flat on the floor. Your forearms should be parallel with the floor so that your hands can rest comfortably on your keyboard.
  • Make sure your chair fits the curvature of your spine and supports your lower back.

Adjust your workstation

  • Move your keyboard so it is at elbow height and place your mouse next to your keyboard. Consider moving your mouse to the opposite side periodically throughout the day so that you are utilizing both hands.
  • Learn and use keyboard shortcuts so that you can cut down on the frequency that you use your mouse each day.
  • Your computer monitor should be in line with your keyboard and the top of your monitor should be near eye level.

Adjust your work habits

  • Change your position throughout the day. Stretch your legs, back, shoulders, wrists, and fingers periodically throughout the day.
  • Have your vision checked regularly. Tell your eye doctor how long you spend staring at screens throughout the day, including when you are at home.
  • Periodically look away from your monitor and focus on an object in the distance while you blink.

  • “When we want develop partnerships with vendors, the deciding factor is always based on a single question…Do they pick up their phone? At Risk Management, they pick up their phone. In the indoor trampoline park industry, we have dealt with several insurance agencies that were always more concerned about their commission, not building a business relationship or serving our needs. On more than one occasion, Risk Management has stepped in and helped us with carrier/policies issues that the incumbent agencies had dropped the ball on. There was no financial reward for Risk Management in these situations, they see a problem and help fix it. They just do business the right way. Steve Young and his team at Risk Management represent us, not the carrier. We highly recommend Risk Management.”
