Does Homeowners Insurance Help With Yard Damage?

Does Homeowners Insurance Help With Yard Damage?

If your yard suffers damage, you may not have to look any further than your homeowners insurance policy to cover the costs.

As a homeowner, chances are you’ve invested blood, sweat, tears, time, and money on your yard. Because of this, it’s only natural that you want protection for your outdoor property just as you have protection for the house itself. The good news is that you don’t have to look any further than your homeowners insurance policy! It covers your lawn, trees, and landscaping–though it must be noted that it doesn’t cover every scenario. Here are a few ways in which your homeowners insurance policy will cover your yard in case it suffers damage.

Repairing or replacing damaged or stolen equipment. If you’ve worked on your yard, you almost certainly used gardening tools. Shovels, weed whackers, rakes, etc. are covered under your policy under the personal property coverage.

Removing fallen trees and shrubs. Homeowners insurance will cover the removal of trees and shrubs, but only if they hit your house or some other insured structure and if what knocked them over is covered, like lightning, wind, or hail. Luckily, coverage applies whether the tree belonged to you or the neighbor.

Repairing unattached structures. If a tree or shrubbery gets knocked over and damaged unattached structures, your company will cover the repairing of the unattached structure(s). Unattached structures are things like fences, or a gazebo and other such structures. It’s a smart thing to ask your insurer what unattached structures are covered by your insurance policy so you know what is covered and what isn’t.

  • “When we want develop partnerships with vendors, the deciding factor is always based on a single question…Do they pick up their phone? At Risk Management, they pick up their phone. In the indoor trampoline park industry, we have dealt with several insurance agencies that were always more concerned about their commission, not building a business relationship or serving our needs. On more than one occasion, Risk Management has stepped in and helped us with carrier/policies issues that the incumbent agencies had dropped the ball on. There was no financial reward for Risk Management in these situations, they see a problem and help fix it. They just do business the right way. Steve Young and his team at Risk Management represent us, not the carrier. We highly recommend Risk Management.”
