5 Tips For Obtaining Trampoline Parks Workers Compensation

Trampoline Park Industry Growing in Popularity

Do you have difficulty finding workers compensation insurance for your trampoline park?  You are not alone. Many trampoline park owners struggle with the same thing. The diversity of employee responsibilities and the risk of employees jumping on the trampolines make all insurance carriers nervous. As a result many parks are forced to go into their respective State’s workers compensation assigned risk pool where rates are high.

Here are 5 ways that can help plead your case to get out of the assigned risk pool, including:

  1. No Jump Policy While on Duty

This should be clearly stated in your employee training manual. You may also want to consider having an employee and employer agreement signed at the inception of his or her being hired. That agreement should clearly state the employee agreeing to the “no jump policy”.

  1. Floor Monitor Training Program

Park owners constantly talk about patron education, but what type of employee education do you have in place? One suggestion would be setting an exam for all employees before they become floor monitors. If they pass with a certain percentage then they can become floor monitors. Another suggestion would be to have monthly meetings to reinforce employee training  Then have the employees sign off that they attended the training, reviewed the company policies, and put it in their file.

  1. Discipline Guidelines If Caught Jumping

Even though you have a no jump policy in place, employees are bound to jump sometime and become injured. So, how do you prove to the carrier it won’t happen again? Some suggestions would be a 3 strikes and your out, a demotion to front desk or concessions position for an allotted amount of time, or just scheduling them less.  The final option would be termination of employment. Ultimately what the carrier will want to see is you as the employer enforcing those rules.

  1. Social Media Jumping

One of the first things an underwriter is going to do is check your trampoline park’s Facebook page and website. If there are any videos of your employees jumping, flipping, dunking basketballs, or going into a foam pit then take them down.

  1. Educated Agent/Agency

The trampoline park industry is growing at a rapid rate there is an ever increasing need to have specialized agents that understand not just the liability side of parks, but workers compensation as well. These agents/agencies will find ways to break out employee responsibilities and walk you through audits at the end of the year. If you need help please feel free to contact us.

  • “When we want develop partnerships with vendors, the deciding factor is always based on a single question…Do they pick up their phone? At Risk Management, they pick up their phone. In the indoor trampoline park industry, we have dealt with several insurance agencies that were always more concerned about their commission, not building a business relationship or serving our needs. On more than one occasion, Risk Management has stepped in and helped us with carrier/policies issues that the incumbent agencies had dropped the ball on. There was no financial reward for Risk Management in these situations, they see a problem and help fix it. They just do business the right way. Steve Young and his team at Risk Management represent us, not the carrier. We highly recommend Risk Management.”
